1984-1987

After Fine Arts School I was strongly influenced by the emerging tendency in the arts; exhibitions about German expressionismand New Figuration movements lead me to experiment the representation of human figure as a landscape. My first individual exhibition at Galeria Módulo ( Porto, 1984) presented oil large scale paintings. From that period 'acrobate 1' and 'acrobate  2' paintings illustrate my concerns with the capture of movement within a poetical frame translating the representation of male bodies as screens of fantasy.
My first works had some visibility in the big exhibitions in the new generation of Portuguese painters (Bienal de Cerveira,1986; "NovosNovos"/SNBA/Lisboa; 1985;"Tempos de memória", GaleriaMódulo Lisboa;1986; 1ª Exposição de Arte Contemporânea, Museu Soares dos Reis, 1986; ‘12 Jovens artistas’,S.N.B.A./Lisboa,1984.). However this was a fake impression; soon I discovered myself as an outsider.
